Why bother?

Does it have any scientific proof?

When I’m asked to justify and support Qigong, I never have a clear enough argument to hand, so I’d like to lay out my personal experiences backed by whatever scientific thinking I can offer.

My education path has been twofold.
I’ve studied Dr Pang Ming’s Hun Yuan Entirety Theory, in which he espouses his theory of the Universe, expressed through Chinese culture and using the lens of Qi.

I was lucky enough to work closely with Jude Currivan whilst she created her “degree level” cutting edge online course on Cosmology. (If you haven’t yet had the pleasure of reading one of her many excellent books, I highly recommend her writing. She was at University, and won the same prize as Stephen Hawking the year later.)

I’ve also met and interviewed Amit Goswami, and Nassim Haramine both cutting edge Quantum Physicists.

My research reading has taken me from my friend Lynne McTaggart’s work (an excellent and thorough scientific researcher), to Joseph Selbie’s seminal work “The physics of God “

I don’t see myself as a Quantum physicist, however I feel that my tapestry of research has left me reasonably well informed.

One of my key moments was discussing Jude Currivan’s cutting edge restatement of the first and second laws of thermodynamics, to call them the first and second laws of Information.

Information features highly in Dr Pang’s Hun Yuan Entirety Theory also.

Simply stated, “Information,” the smallest unit of the Universe, can never be broken down or dissipated.

The Qi that makes up our Universe and everything in it, can also be translated as Matter in Western Science.

It is understood currently at its most basic and fundamental level that Information ‘informs’ Matter; matter can change from ‘being’ into ‘non-being’ and back, based on the information that it’s given.

Consciousness, it the tool that ‘moves’ information in our world. (included in that idea is also Sub-consciousness)

The issue is that just mentioning Consciousness in Science used to be exceptionally unpopular and could get a scientist banned or side-lined for a career..

The Quantum physicist Amit Goswami recalls the following..

A case in point is the fate of several scientific papers that emerged from the Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research (PEAR) program. PEAR was founded in 1979 by Robert G. Jahn, then dean of the Princeton School of Engineering and Applied Science. Despite the pedigree of Princeton University and of Professor Jahn, and despite the overwhelmingly high quality of the science conducted, not one paper based on PEAR’s successful proof of telekinesis was ever accepted by a respected scientific journal. PEAR’s methodical practice of science was impeccable. PEAR conducted experiments for 27 years to determine whether individuals could affect material objects without physical contact.

Among their experimental approaches, PEAR developed a variety of what they called random events generators (REGs), such as water fountains, cascading steel balls, pendulums, and electronic systems. The REGs were rigorously developed to be impervious to all known outside influences such as vibration, pressure, temperature, and electromagnetism. No REGs were used in their experiments unless they had demonstrated precisely measurable results and maintained rock-solid consistency when left in isolation. Once a REG was determined to have rock-solid consistency, volunteers were then asked to try to alter its rock-solid consistency by their thoughts alone.

For example, volunteers tried, without touching or influencing the devices in any physical way, to make more water flow in one channel of a fountain than the other, or to make more steel balls cascade to one side of a device than the other.

PEAR conducted these experiments for almost three decades, using hundreds of volunteers, in thousands of experiments, accumulating billions of data points. The results of these experiments revealed that nearly every volunteer had successfully altered the baseline distribution of the REG. The change from the baseline was often miniscule—but consistent— to an overwhelming statistically meaningful degree. The odds against the possibility that PEAR’s experimental findings are merely the result of random events are several trillion to one.

In other words, practically speaking, there is no chance at all that their findings could be wrong: The volunteers successfully affected the behavior of physical systems using only their minds.

Yet no prestigious scientific journal ever published their papers. PEAR’s findings, by every objective measure, were based on facts gathered in a stringently scientific manner. But because their findings fell outside scientific orthodoxy they were not given any scientific legitimacy.

We in the Qigong world face the same skepticism. A closes mind will say “if we can’t measure it, then it must not exist…
We also use our minds to affect the outcome of our illnesses.

As this is a justification for the use of Qigong, I’ll start with a key aspect of Dr Pang’s work, Qi field theory.

He states that everything is made from Qi, and that our consciousness creates our life. He says “change your mind, change your life”

He demonstrated this in the 1990’s for ten years at his ‘Medicineless Hospital’ where more than quarter of a million ‘students’ (he didn’t like the disabling connotations of the word Patients) came through his doors. He published reports in several scientific magazines of the day that showed that 45% of his Students were ‘completely cured’ – 45% were put into deep remission (practically cured..) 5% passed away, but 5% had what was described as ‘spontaneous healings’ – one day they were sick, the next, no evidence of any illness at all.
All their cases were documented and supported by x-rays and ultrasound scans.

How were they achieving such extraordinary results?

He makes a great deal about working in a “Qi field” – where the group supports each-other and is constantly fed “good information “

Past healees and current teachers would share their own amazing healing stories with the assembled company (sometimes up to 10,000 people!) – (see the book 101 Miracles of Healing, by Luke Chan which details extraordinary stories of self-healing collected by this Western teacher, when he visited Dr Pang’s now closed Centre. Sadly, Qigong was repressed by the government in China for the past 20 years, due to its amazing rising popularity!)

So, the main principle we use is this idea that being in a group and sharing good information is already part of the healing process.
Monkey see, monkey do!
If you see a friend beside you apparently “dissolve“ their  problem, then you have to ask yourself “why can’t I do the same!?”

These days most of the leading ‘alternative’ medicine practitioners would say 95% of all illnesses come from the mind.

It’s a challenging thought, that essentially says “this cancer I have was given to me by myself”

I believe this to be true, but before we get upset, we have to look at what “myself” actually represents.

You are a conglomeration of all you have ever seen, done or been told.

Most of your beliefs are actually inherited from your Grandparents, your parents, your religion, state and school. Teachers, lovers, brothers, friends and colleagues add more ideas to the thing you think of as ‘you’

Add to this complexity the concept that you also make up ideas for yourself. “I’m not worthy, I’ll never be any good at, nobody will ever love me, loving is too dangerous… “

Taking Fear as an example, we know that a shock triggers a chemical cascade through our body. Stress does the same, except that it keeps the “chemical tap” dripping into one’s system hour after hour, day after day.

What are you afraid of, losing your job, losing your partner, losing your house, your health, your place in society, losing face? And so, the Adrenalin flows, until you suffer some sort of Renal fatigue.

How did this fear and subsequent illness appear? Maybe you choose this job to impress your father, who never respected you. His ideas of ‘hard work’ drove you into a career that you hate, and that got you trapped in the merry-go-round of modern life, now you can get off!!

Would you have chosen this for yourself if you’d know it would make you ill!? So many young people these days are resisting the old structures, to live a life of freedom. Let’s see if that gives better results.

So, to healing one’s problems. Meditation or Contemplation (be it Qigong, sitting or even walking in nature) gives you space to examine the triggers in your life. The twenty first century goes too fast for us to hear what our hearts are saying.

Vadim Zealand, the Russian philosopher and quantum physicist has a very clear take on it.

“Don’t buy into the ‘pendulums’ of modern life.”

Don’t be attracted to the causes that want your attention (and therefore your precious Qi energy)

Donald Trump desperately needs you to buy into his story, he doesn’t really mind if you are following him or shouting at him, at least he has your attention. That’s a pendulum.

Your government, your football team, your partner’s histrionics are all seeking your energy and attention. (If you are unwell, this is energy you can I’ll afford to lose)

Stay away from the news agenda, avoid “toxic” friends, stay in nature, this is the foundation of a good healing. (Eat clean, and exercise well too… mental and physical hygiene…)

The essence of our Qigong healing system (Zhineng Qigong) is called La Qi. Possibly the most simple healing tool, with the most profound power (the power of your consciousness!)

In its most simple form, it goes like this. Sit quietly, think for a moment about what it is you’d like to heal.

(I’d like to dissolve my bone spurs, my gall stones, my tumor…)

I think the Western Mind likes to have good visualisations, so ask for a copy of a scan, so that you know what it looks like, compare it with a healthy picture. (these days, I’d ask AI to take my scan, and animate it to show a healthy version, I.e what I’m intending to make it look like, so I actually have my own movie of my “xxx” healing, going from bad to good!)

Don’t concentrate on the illness. (In general change the way you think and talk about it… NOT “I have rheumatism, but rather “my illness is going, I’m working on deleting my illness etc.. “)

The firmer it is fixed in your brain, the harder it is to change in reality. If you keep seeing it as gone, your body starts to accept this new reality and will start to heal.

So, in our La Qi exercise, we briefly imagine the problem (don’t give it too much power) then we open our hands apart and imagin the problem dissolves into the Universe.

I want to break out here and add a passage from Joseph Selbie’s book that gives us the Western idea of how “everything is Qi” is expressed in Western terms..

“You’ve probably heard this old chestnut before, but it’s worth repeating: If all the space between the nucleus of the atoms and their orbiting electrons were removed, our bodies would be reduced to less than the size of a pinhead. Our bodies consist nearly entirely of empty space—as in 99.9999 percent empty space.

Everything from pancakes to planets forms from the varying interactions between the electron shells of atoms.

One thing, however, that electron shells don’t do (in ordinary conditions) is collapse. The electron force field is immensely strong. It is this force field–like electron cloud around every atom that keeps our mostly-full-of-space body from meshing into other mostly-full-of-space objects—or from sinking into the ground on which we stand.

A helpful visual analogy is that a large cardboard box tightly packed with Ping Pong balls, all of which are hollow, would easily hold your weight if you stood on it. Similarly, the ground easily supports your weight even though our solid-seeming earth is 99.9999 percent space.

Current theories in physics, quantum theory, and, especially, string theory relegate our physical universe—which, as we just explored, is essentially organized energy held in stable patterns—to be a small, self-contained, three-dimensional energy “bubble” in a virtually infinite two-dimensional ocean of energy—what I like to call the energy-verse.

The LaQi exercise is usually done sitting, hands about 6 to 10cm apart.

Visualise the problem area, and bring some “space” to it.

We talk about Qi, Space and Information in Zhineng Qigong. If you think about muscles all tensed up, there’s no space… gentle relaxation brings space in.

In the same way, we imaging opening space around cells, around bones, around organs, whatever we are working with.

When we slowly bring our hands together, what do we bring back, if we have dissolved our problem!? Up to you, you might want to be VERY specific, and see a perfectly shaped bone or perfect organ.

Maybe you just imagine pouring love or sunshine in and trust the body’s innate healing system…

The only limitation is your own mind! Get creative!

The idea is that we are all made from Qi and that our universe is also made of Qi… Therefore, by changing our consciousness we can change the consistency of the qi, dissolve problems and thereby heal ourselves..

If we look at the famous double-sit experiment, we see that it takes an Observer, to change a particle into a wave, in this case we direct our consciousness to change the quality of the standing waves that make up our bodies.. .

In the La Qi classes that I observed in Xian and ShouGuan City in China, the students sat four six to eight hours in this amazing Qi field. The class I visited happened to have 40 Gallstone sufferers. Scanning the next day showed that 38 of them had completely dissolved their Gallstones.

It’s really a case of Mind over matter, and now we realise that mind IS matter. So maybe “Consciousness over matter” is a better way of putting it!! It’s my life’s work to build a facility where we can prove this theory, and demonstrate something approaching Dr Pang’s astonishing healing record, but this time in Europe.
As always, I’m on the look-out for a partner who can help me finance such an endeavor! Is it you?
In the meantime, I have a recording of Dr Pang, doing the La Qi exercise on my website’s resources page – it’s very slow and mediative, why not give it a try and see what you can heal
We say “Hao La!” in Zhineng Qigong – which means “Everything is GOOD already!”
